I have spent a lot of time recently playing with APRS4R. This is I-gate software that runs on a modified Asus Router - in other words no PC is required. This means that the running costs are substanitially lower than leaving a PC on 24/7 but the functionality is more or less the same. The software is stable and working, but at version 1.01, so I am sure the developers will be adding more features as the system matures. One major challenge has been that the GUI and much of the website is in German. As a result I have spent a fair amount of time translating things as I worked out what was going on. I am in the process of translating the APRS4R Wiki into English so that other non-German speakers do not have to retread all of my steps. I have spoken to the editor of RADCOM about writing a short article for publication, but as always time is not on my side....
